01 Introduction

This Privacy Policy describes how Rudder ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and safeguards information when you use the Rudder iOS application and related services (collectively, the "Service"). Rudder is an aviation learning app offering quizzes, decision scenarios, and progress tracking.

By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to the practices described here. If you do not agree, please discontinue use of the Service.

Plain-language promise: we collect the minimum needed to run the app, secure it carefully, and never sell it. Everything below is the detailed version of that sentence.

02 Information we collect

We collect information in three ways: data you provide, data created as you learn, and data collected automatically by your device.

Information you provide

DataExamplesSource
Account identityName, email, username, passwordSign-up form
AuthenticationApple / Google OAuth identifiersSign in with Apple / Google

Learning data

  • Quiz attempts, answers, accuracy, and streaks
  • Scenario decisions and completion outcomes
  • XP, achievements, and rank progression

Collected automatically

  • Usage analytics — feature interactions, session timing, and aggregate performance metrics used to improve the Service.
  • Diagnostics — crash reports and structured logs that help us fix errors. These are scoped to avoid capturing sensitive content.
  • Device information — device model, iOS version, and a non-advertising identifier for caching and reliability.

03 How we use your information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide and maintain your account and learning progress
  • Personalize quizzes, scenarios, and rank progression
  • Sync your data across sessions and support offline access through on-device caching
  • Measure feature performance and improve content quality
  • Detect, prevent, and address security incidents or abuse
  • Communicate important account, security, or service updates
We do not use your learning data to build advertising profiles, and we do not run third-party ad networks inside the app.

05 Sharing & disclosure

We share personal data only in the limited circumstances below, and only to the extent necessary:

  • Service providers — vetted processors (e.g. authentication, analytics, and crash-reporting providers) acting under contract and on our instructions.
  • Authentication partners — Apple and Google, when you choose to sign in with their services, governed by their own privacy policies.
  • Legal & safety — when required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of users and the Service.
  • Business transfers — if Rudder is involved in a merger or acquisition, with notice to you and continued protection of your data.

We never sell your personal data, and we do not share it with advertisers for cross-app tracking.

06 Data security

Security is engineered into Rudder, not bolted on. Our safeguards include:

  • Keychain storage — authentication tokens and sensitive account data are stored in the iOS Keychain, protected by the device's secure enclave.
  • Mutual TLS (mTLS) — production network traffic is mutually authenticated to protect data in transit.
  • Token management — access tokens are short-lived and refreshed automatically; we never store credentials in plain text.
  • Input validation & minimal logging — logs are structured and scoped to avoid capturing sensitive content.
No system is perfectly secure. If we ever detect a breach affecting your data, we will notify affected users and the relevant authorities as required by law.

07 Data retention

We retain personal data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. When you delete your profile, we remove your personal data from active systems promptly, and from backups within a rolling retention window. We may retain limited, de-identified or aggregated information for analytics, and certain records where required by law.

08 Your rights & choices

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

  • Access a copy of the personal data we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate information via Settings → Edit Profile
  • Delete your account and associated data via Settings → Delete Profile
  • Object to or restrict certain processing, including optional analytics
  • Portability — request your data in a structured, machine-readable format

To exercise any of these rights, use the in-app controls or contact us at the address below. We will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law.

09 Children's privacy

Rudder is intended for aviation learners aged 16 and older and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.

10 Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes in our practices or for legal reasons. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
